What is Borosilicate Reflex Glass?

Borosilicate reflex glass is a type of toughened, heat-resistant glass made from borosilicate material and designed with a prismatic (grooved) surface on one side. These grooves reflect light differently depending on whether the chamber behind the glass contains liquid or vapor — creating a sharp visual contrast for easy level reading.

This simple yet effective design eliminates the need for electrical indicators, providing a fail-safe, maintenance-free visual system for liquid level monitoring in high-pressure and high-temperature equipment such as boilers, tanks, and reactors.

How Reflex Glass Works

The working principle of reflex glass is based on the reflection of light.

The prismatic grooves on the inner surface of the glass create two visual zones:

  • Bright (silver-white) – Indicates vapor or gas.
  • Dark (black) – Indicates liquid.

When light enters the glass, it is reflected by the vapor zone and absorbed by the liquid zone, giving operators a clear and immediate reading of the liquid level — even from a distance.
